Bayern Munich vs Barcelona
Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona are set to go head-to-head in a Champions League encounter on Wednesday.
Bayern head into the game sitting top of their group, and a full eight points clear of second place. As a result, the German outfit have already secured passage into the knockout rounds and 1st place in Group E.
This means that the game is of little importance to Julian Nagelsmann’s side. However, for Barcelona, the tie is a huge one.
Xavi Hernandez’s team head into the meeting sitting second in Group E. But 3rd placed Benfica are only two points behind them before the final set of group fixtures.
So, should Benfica see off Dynamo Kyiv, which seems likely as the Ukrainian outfit have not won a CL game this term, netting just one goal, and Barca fail to beat Bayern, then the Spanish giants would actually end up finishing 3rd in their group – condemning them to the Europa League.
Bayern Munich trio out of Barcelona clash
As a result, Barcelona could do with all the help possible when it comes to getting a result against Bayern – a side who comfortably beat them 3-0 earlier this season and put seven past La Blaugrana in the meeting before that.
And now, it appears Barca have indeed been handed a boost ahead of the game.
All of Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich are out injured. Of course, top stars like Robert Lewandowski and Manuel Neuer are still expected to be available. But in Barcelona’s situation, they will likely take any help they can get.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann ahead of the Barca game, has told Benfica (Barca’s rivals), Bayern won’t rest players.
Nagelsmann: “Don’t worry. We’ll have the best available team. Greetings to Lisbon.”
But out are injured Gnabry/Goretzka & Kimmich/Choupo-Moting (post Covid.)
