Official: Tottenham’s clash with Brighton postponed amid Covid outbreak

FPL bosses take note: Decision reached on Tottenham’s Premier League meeting with Brighton

Tottenham Hotspur have seen the club’s upcoming meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion postponed by the Premier League, it has been confirmed.

Covid chaos

The subject of developments on the Lilywhite half of north London has of course proven headlines news across the week thus far.

This comes with Spurs’ squad, just as they appeared to be finding their feet under the watch of new boss Antonio Conte, having been dealt an altogether untimely blow.

As confirmed by Conte himself himself on Wednesday, no fewer than eight members of the club’s playing squad, alongside a further five members of staff, have returned positive tests for Covid-19:

‘Eight players and five members of staff but the problem is that every day we’re having people with Covid, people that yesterday weren’t positive and today are and we’re continuing to have contact with. It’s a serious problem.’

The extent of the outbreak, in turn, culminated in Tottenham’s scheduled Europa Conference League meeting with Stade Rennais later this evening being postponed by UEFA:

And now, as outlined above, the Premier League have followed suit.

As confirmed in an official statement a short time ago, Spurs’ league clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, due to take place on Sunday afternoon, has also been called off.

Details on the rescheduled date will be forthcoming in due course:

Whilst this evening’s news will no doubt be met with relief on the part of those at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Conte and co. must now too face up to an increasingly concerning situation when it comes to their prospects over the months ahead.

Amid the already hectic nature of the festive fixture list in England, Spurs will soon see an added three fixtures totted onto their schedule, in the form of the aforementioned matchups with Rennes and Brighton, as well as a Premier League clash with Burnley, postponed late last month owing to adverse weather conditions.
