Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has, on Friday, provided an insight into his plans to utilise star defender Reece James in the club’s meeting with Leeds United.

Leeds test

Tuchel will guide his side back into action in a little less than 24 hours’ time.

The Blues are set to welcome the aforementioned Leeds to Stamford Bridge, for a highly-anticipated Premier League showdown.

Chelsea, of course, will head into proceedings seeking out a much needed bounce-back result, on the back of the club’s first shaky spell of form of the campaign to date.

After stuttering to just a solitary win from their last three league outings over the last couple of weeks, the capital giants’ woes carried over onto the continent in midweek.

A Champions League group stage clash saw Chelsea pegged back at the death in a 3-3 stalemate with Zenit St. Petersburg, a result which ultimately culminated in the European champions surrendering top spot in Group H to Juventus.

James latest

Chelsea’s disappointing night in Russia came with boss Thomas Tuchel having been forced into a whole host of changes to his first-choice XI.

With the likes of Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek sidelined, a makeshift midfield comprising of Ross Barkley, Mason Mount and the aforementioned Reece James were utilised from the off on Wednesday.

In turn, after confirming that both Kovacic and Kante are set to miss out once again versus Leeds, the Chelsea headmaster was unsurprisingly drawn on the possibility of James, who has shone bright in his customary right wing-back role of late, setting up shop in the middle of the park once more.

In news which will no doubt be greeted with glee on the part of the Blues faithful and Fantasy Football managers alike, though, Tuchel went on to assure that:

‘Reece will start as a wing-back. There is no need tomorrow to try these different things.’
