Rafa Benitez provides positive Dominic Calvert-Lewin update ahead of Crystal Palace vs Everton

Crystal Palace vs Everton

Everton will face a trip to Crystal Palace in Sunday’s late Premier League kick-off.

Everton had been on a simply torrid run of form of late, which had seen the Toffees drop dramatically down the table and come very close to being sucked into a relegation battle.

However, after being winless in eight games, Everton would then, obviously, finally pick up a win against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Said win moved Everton up to 12th in the Premier League and to within just three points of 8th.

As a result, Rafa Benitez and co. are no doubt eager to keep their momentum from the Arsenal win going by seeing off a very out of form Crystal Palace.

Palace had a solid start to 2021/22, but have since failed to win any of their last four league matches and, as a result, have dropped down to 14th in the PL.

Rafa Benitez on Yerry Mina & Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Before facing off with Crystal Palace, Rafa Benitez held his latest pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

When doing so, the former Newcastle boss would provide a team news update on his side.

Yerry Mina picked up an issue during the aforementioned Arsenal win and looks set to miss out on Sunday. Benitez also stated that Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been out for some time now, is getting closer to a return from injury:

“In terms of fitness, the team is well. In terms of injures we have Yerry, Dominic is getting closer. Yerry is not available, Rondon is available and has been training. Allan today did half a training session, Davies next week might start with the team.”

The Spaniard would also be quizzed on the January window, but remained rather coy:

“At the moment, my main job is to concentrate on the games. At the same time, the club is trying to manage the new structure. They are working on that. You keep an eye on that, but as I say the priority is just the games.”
