Revealed: Edinson Cavani and Ferran Torres’ stance on Barcelona move after Europa League humiliation

Revealed: Edinson Cavani and Ferran Torres’ stance on Barcelona move after Europa League humiliation

Barcelona to play Europa League football

It was already a feared outcome heading to the Allianz Arena for their final group game, but a hefty 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich left Barcelona facing reality: they would be playing Europa League football for the first time since 2003/04 when the knockouts came around in February 2022.

The Blaugrana picked up some form in the group following back-to-back 3-0 defeats at the hands of Bayern and Benfica during Ronald Koeman’s reign, but ultimately could not find a way to make up the ground lost under the Dutch boss after Xavi’s arrival.

Xavi now must begin the mammoth task of rebuilding the club, and while there are some brilliant youth prospects at his disposal in the likes of Gavi, Pedri, Nico and Ansu Fati, it still seems a severely uphill task.

Could this be made yet harder by the fact that the club can no longer offer Champions League football? Sitting 8th in La Liga at present, it is not even clear that they will be able to next season either.

Cavani and Torres happy to play in the Europa League

Two players that the club have been linked to heavily are a manchester pair, in the form of City’s Ferran Torres and United’s Edinson Cavani.

Groundwork has been laid for a potential move for Torres in the summer or even January, with only the fee to be agreed between the two clubs, although this could prove a stumbling block knowing Barcelona’s financial struggles.

Cavani, meanwhile, is thought to be keen on joining Barca when his current Manchester United deal expires in the summer.

And, as per Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, playing in the Europa League will not be an issue for either player, despite their current Champions League status. As per the report:

“The Uruguayan and the Spaniard remain keen on playing for the club despite Barça’s KO in the Champions League”

Would they help Barcelona push forward as a club?
