After Champions League mess, Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo’s brilliant record against Atletico Madrid highlighted

Champions League draw unkind to Manchester United, twice

Manchester United were at the centre of Champions League controversy as UEFA officials failed to put their ball in the pot for a potential tie, rendering the whole draw null and void.

In the event, the Red Devils drew Paris Saint Germain, but this was quickly made redundant as UEFA announced they would have to re-do the draw.

And, while they avoided PSG this time around, they still found themselves paired with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid, who finished runners up in the group containing Liverpool and AC Milan.

Ronaldo’s brilliant record against Atleti comes to the fore

Of course, Cristiano Ronaldo spent a long time in Madrid, playing for Atletico’s city rivals Real, in a career that spanned 9 years, and included 450 goals in 438 appearances.

And his favourite opposition? Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side.

CR7 has scored goals against them for both Real Madrid and Juventus, and has netted 25 times in 35 appearances when faced with the La Liga side, including a memorable Champions League hat-trick.

He has also provided 9 assists in this time, and given his record in the Champions League so far this campaign, few would bet against him continuing that impressive run of goal contributions.

Can he help Manchester United past a stubborn Atletico Madrid side?
