Confirmed: Watford vs Burnley postponed due to COVID-19Confirmed: Watford vs Burnley postponed due to COVID-19

Covid-19 Cases rising

Covid-19 cases worldwide and more specifically in the UK are rising rapidly as the new variant, Omicron, spreads like wildfire.

Football clubs have not been exempt from this, and Tottenham have already seen one of their games called off over an outbreak of the virus at their training ground, from which some of their first team are still suffering.

Since then, there have been confirmed cases at Manchester United and Brighton, as well as Mateo Kovacic of Chelsea and Brentford’s Ivan Toney testing positive last week.

Manchester United’s clash with Brentford was called off yesterday, and now there has been another casualty.

Burnley vs Watford called off, with fans already travelling

Now, just 2 and a half hours before the game between Burnley and Watford, the game has been called off due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Watford camp, that only emerged today.

It was confirmed by the Lancashire club, who wrote:

We can confirm that tonight’s match against Watford has been postponed due to an ongoing Covid outbreak within the opposition squad

The home side are yet to announce that the game is off, but they follow a worrying trend of increasing numbers of games being postponed amid a raft of COVID-19 cases in the Premier League.

Does the division need a firebreak, or will they push through?
