Man United gripped by fresh Covid-19 outbreak amongst players and staff

Man United tackling latest Covid outbreak

Premier League giants Manchester United have been left wounded after the latest outbreak of Covid-19 in the UK has hit Old Trafford.

According to the Telegraph’s northern football correspondent James Ducker, 19 cases have sprouted up at the club among both player personnel and club staff.

Additionally, the report states that first-team players and personnel are not the only ones that have been affected by the latest surge, suggesting that non-playing staff, as well as those in the youth sector, could constitute a portion of the 19 cases that have currently been confirmed.

This comes as the latest in a string of outbreaks that have gripped the Premier League over the last few days, which has already led to a number of fixtures to be postponed until a later date including tonight’s match between Burnley and Watford at Turf Moor after Brentford and Manchester United had their clash at the Brentford Community Stadium postponed yesterday.

As a response, the Premier League has turned down further requests from other clubs to have their fixtures canceled this week, signaling a growing threat of another serious outbreak that outstrips the severity of where the league is already at currently.

Premier League clubs press on with normal service

Despite the worrying numbers of cases that have continues to crop up among Premier League clubs, all that can be done is for operations at each of the twenty league participants to continue as safely as possible.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe recently commented on the nature of what that looks like at St. James’ Park after the Magpies have been lucky enough to not deal with an outbreak of their own;

We all got tested today and touch wood we will all come through those test OK. We’re following all the procedures and protocols given to us by the Premier League. We’ve been happy with how we’ve managed the situation here.”

Arsenal headmaster Mikel Arteta has called for calm recently as well as it looks increasingly unlikely that the Premier League will sanction a competition-wide postponement while the outbreak subsides.

Manchester United can consider themselves unlucky given how hard-hit the club has been by the new Omicron variant of the virus, but hopefully, everyone that has tested positive will recover in good order as football persists through another troubling period.
