Premier League giants Arsenal have, on Friday, unveiled highlights of the club’s U23s getting the better of their Southampton counterparts.

Balogun amongst the goals (again)

Kevin Betsy’s men marked their return to action earlier this week.

Amid a solid campaign to date, which sees the Gunners sitting 3rd in the Premier League 2 table, Arsenal made the trip to the Staplewood Training Ground, for a meeting with the aforementioned Southampton.

The matchup came in the Premier League Cup, with Betsy and co. having been aware ahead of kick-off that a win was a must, on the back of just a pair of points secured from their first three outings.

And, when all was said and done, bag all three points is precisely what Arsenal managed.

A hard-fought 90 minutes ultimately saw the visitors emerge on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline, owing to goals from all of Joel Ideho, Mika Biereth and Folarin Balogun.

Ideho was first up, taking advantage of some lax defending on the part of Southampton to dink a pinpoint effort beyond Ollie Wright from 30 yards:

After the hosts had retaken the lead, star man Folarin Balogun then dragged Arsenal back on level terms with his 16th of the season just beyond the midway point of the 2nd-half, surging inside from the left before slotting home in typically confident fashion:

And the turnaround was complete ten minutes from time, as hitman Mika Biereth, introduced off the bench, rolled his defender courtesy of a gorgeous first touch, before picking out the far corner with aplomb:

Leeds test

Back on the senior front, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are of course primed to mark their return to action in a little less than 24 hours’ time.

The Gunners, in one of just five Premier League fixtures scheduled to actually go ahead this weekend, will make the trip to Elland Road, for a meeting with relegation-battling Leeds United.

Back-to-back victories over Southampton and West Ham United mean that, should Arsenal eventually emerge triumphant in west Yorkshire, they will open up, at least temporarily, a full four-point advantage over the rest of the top-4 chasing pack in the English top-flight.

As fresh training update hints at major fallout, stat shows Arsenal could be better off without Aubameyang
