Update on Chelsea’s clash with Wolves amid claims of fresh Covid cases

Update on status of Chelsea’s clash with Wolves amid claims of two fresh Covid cases

A fresh update on the status of Chelsea’s upcoming meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers has been provided on Saturday afternoon.

Covid chaos

The week to date, of course, has proven nothing short of a disaster in the Premier League.

This comes as the new Omicron variant of Covid-19 rapidly spreads across the English top-flight’s clubs.

Outbreaks have been reported at the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Leicester City, Tottenham and Watford, leaving the Premier League powers that be with little choice but to postpone a host of fixtures at the last minute.

Just today, for example, the scheduled clash between Aston Villa and Burnley was called off, meaning that, as things stand, fans are facing up to a putrid 4-fixture gameweek in England’s top-tier.

‘No current doubts’

One such clash currently set to go ahead of course comes in the form of Chelsea’s trip to Molineux to face Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

With less than 24 hours before the action is due to get underway in the west Midlands, however, fears of another incoming postponement began to spread across social media.

This came owing to claims of a fresh pair of positive Covid cases in the Chelsea camp, adding to the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Mateo Kovacic:

If the latest word stemming from the media on Saturday evening is anything to go by, however, then such concerns, as things stand at least, appear unsubstantiated.

As per the reliable Tim Spiers of The Athletic, there are ‘no current doubts’ over the prospect of Chelsea’s meeting with Wolves going ahead as planned:
