Arsenal hammer Leeds

Arsenal faced off with Leeds United on Saturday evening in the day’s only Premier League clash.

Leeds headed into the game experiencing a huge personnel crisis, with a number of top stars out due to either injury or illness.

As a result, Marcelo Bielsa had to field a very, very weak squad on the day. And, given Leeds’ poor form anyway, an Arsenal win did seem very likely.

So, when the Gunners eventually came away with a resounding 4-1 win, not too many will have been surprised.

A first-half brace from Gabriel Martinelli was followed by further strikers from Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, whilst a 75th-minute penalty from Raphinha was little more than a consolation for the Whites.

Mikel Arteta’s Smith Rowe problem

As mentioned above, Emile Smith Rowe would bag the 4th of the day for Arsenal.

The midfielder once again came off the bench, like he did vs West Ham in midweek, to score for the north Londoners.

Now, after doing so for two games in a row, Ian Wright believes Smith Rowe has handed Mikel Arteta another problem, though in a positive sense.

When speaking about Smith Rowe post-Leeds, Wright stated:

“At the moment what he’s doing is brilliant” “What you’re seeing with Emile Smith Rowe is ‘Ok, I’m out of the team but when I come on, I don’t care if I’m getting two minutes, five minutes, ten minutes, I’m going to get a chance, I’m going to make sure I score.’

“What he’s doing now, what he’s realised is that it’s about goals, it’s about end product. “It’s something that he’s worked on and the manager’s wanted him to work on and now he’s showing the manager ‘right if you put me on the bench I’m looking to score a goal.’ “He’s done it and given the manager another problem and that is exactly what you want.”
