Another Chelsea double personnel boost confirmed before Brentford

Another pair of timely boosts on the personnel front have been confirmed at European champions Chelsea on Monday evening.

Londoners faltering

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues squad has of course taken its place front and centre in the media headlines of late.

This comes with a remarkable stretch of bad luck on the personnel front having culminated in the once imperious capital outfit slipping alarmingly off the pace of the Premier League summit.

Recent weeks alone have seen all of Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Andreas Christensen, Jorginho, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi forced into spells on the sidelines, owing to a combination of injury and Covid-19.

And such absentees, in turn, have had an understandable impact on Chelsea’s form.

The Pensioners have managed just a solitary win from their last five across all competitions, allowing Manchester City to open up a six-point advantage over Tuchel and co. in the race for English top-flight supremacy.

Not only that, but Chelsea were too forced to settle for a runners-up spot in their Champions League group, owing to a final day collapse at Zenit St. Petersburg.

Christensen returns

As such, it goes without saying that Tuchel’s troops will be keen to get things firmly back on track this coming Wednesday, when they make the short trip to Brentford, for a League Cup quarter-final clash.

And, over the course of the day to date, Chelsea’s hopes of precisely that have been boosted by a series of positive updates on the personnel front.

First, earlier this evening, photos surfaced of Jorginho, forced to sit out the club’s stalemate with Wolves at the weekend, back in full training:

And now, hours later, yet more encouraging news has emerged from Cobham.

This comes in the form of news that Andreas Christensen, also unable to make the trip to Molineux on Saturday, has rejoined first-team training, alongside Trevoh Chalobah, whose premature departure from the clash quickly set alarm bells ringing in west London:
