Newcastle leading the way for Tottenham outcast, and it’s not Dele Alli

Newcastle struggling for survival

Newcastle United, despite a change of both ownership and manager, are seriously struggling this season.

The northeast outfit have won just once all season, and sit five points away from Premier League survival at almost the midway point of the season, although their performances have picked up of late, even if results haven’t.

Unsurprisingly, then, January reinforcements are expected, and many expect the Geordie outfit to be the busiest in the division as they look to avoid relegation with their newly found deep pockets.

One man who was thought to be a target is Tottenham’s Dele Alli, but interest has since cooled, as the Northern Echo claim that:

“there is now an acceptance within the Newcastle hierarchy that the situation relating to both players [Alli and Jesse Lingard] has changed, significantly reducing the likelihood of being able to pull off a January deal”

But could they be shopping in north London anyway?

Rodon on the way in?

Now, as per Mike McGrath of Telegraph Sport, the Magpies are plotting a loan move for Tottenham defender Joe Rodon.

The Wales defender was signed last season, but has failed to break into the Spurs side, with just one Premier League appearance as a sub to his name thus far this season.

It is hard to see where he will either, with Tottenham targeting a centre-back in January and Ben Davies, ostensibly a left-back, slotting in on the left-side of a back three.

The real question is, is he good enough to help keep Newcastle up?
