Iman Shumpert Says LeBron James ‘Ruined Basketball’ With Move to Miami | SLAM

LeBron James’ decision to sign with the Miami Heat may go down as one of the most infamous moves in NBA history, and it’s clear that’s true among players as well.

While on the Bootleg Kev podcast, former Cavs teammate Iman Shumpert had strong words for his former teammate’s decision to sign with the Heat.

“Nah, it wasn’t KD [Kevin Durant]. It was Bron (James) first going to Miami; Bron knows he ruined basketball,” Shumpert said when talking about the subject of super teams in the NBA. “Me personally, I love the NBA for the loyalty that I thought was there. He basically knocked the fourth wall down.”

Shumpert went on to say that he did understand why LeBron made the jump and said his decision was a “great business move.”

LeBron’s move to the Heat in 2010 to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh was widely criticized at the time, but it’s hard to argue that it didn’t pay off for him. In his four years in Miami, James made the NBA Finals every season and won the NBA Championship twice in 2012 and 2013.

Kevin Durant’s move to the Golden State Warriors in 2016 was equally, if not even more so, criticized at the time. Durant’s stint in Golden State was also equally as successful as James’ in Miami, racking up two NBA Championships in 2017 and 2018.

Both Durant and James have found new homes on new super teams since their unpopular career changes, with James heading to the Los Angeles Lakers and Durant playing for the Brooklyn Nets.
