Liverpool challenge for the title again

Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side are once again in the mix for the Premier League title, after a disappointing campaign last time out.

A 2-2 draw with Tottenham saw their progress stunted somewhat, with the Reds now three points off pace-setters Manchester City.

Despite their success on the pitch, however, they could be set to lose another player from an already threadbare squad come the summer.

Joe Gomez on the move?

Now, as per Simon Stone of BBC Sport, Joe Gomez could be in the shop window, with Spanish giants Real Madrid sniffing around the centre-back.

The 24 year-old England international has managed just 14 minutes of Premier League action so far this campaign, and this is a situation that doesn’t seem likely to improve any time soon.

Ibrahima Konate signed in the summer, and has made the position as Virgil Van Dijk’s deputy very much his own, leaving Gomez as a fifth wheel in the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s defence.

And, according to Simon Stone:

“Real feel there is a chance Gomez could leave Anfield at the end of the season as the arrival of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig has increased competition in the centre of the Reds’ defence.”

However, he reiterates that no movement is expected in January.

With the World Cup coming up in November, does Gomez need to depart Anfield to have a chance of being in Gareth Southgate’s plans, and on the plane?
