Virgil van Dijk reveals who will replace him at Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk & Liverpool

Since signing for Liverpool in January of 2018, Virgil van Dijk has gone on to cement himself as one of, if not the best central defender in world football.

The Dutchman played a key role in transforming Liverpool’s previously shaky backline into one of the best in the Premier League.

Such impressive form, in turn, has seen the 30-year-old garner a host of major honours, both on a team and individual basis.

As well as guiding Liverpool to a Premier League title and 6th Champions League crown, VVD has also been named the Premier League Player of the Season, the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

Who will replace Van Dijk?

Van Dijk’s solid form has continued into the current campaign, with it perhaps not too surprising that the Reds have looked much weaker at the back in their last two league ties with Van Dijk currently out due to covid.

But, like any player, Liverpool cannot rely on them forever, and a replacement will be needed in the future.

Van Dijk is 30, so should still have at least a few more years at the top, but planning for the future is always key if you are looking to continue your side’s dominance.

And now, VVD has revealed who will take his place at Liverpool. Said players are not outsiders, however, and already play for Liverpool.

When taking part in some filming for Liverpool recently, the centre-back was in between Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez, with Van Dijk claim that the pair will take his place:

“These two are gonna take my place at one place though.”
