Tomiyasu out against Norwich?

Arsenal could be without summer signing Takehiro Tomiyasu for their Boxing Day clash with Norwich after the new fan-favorite at the Emirates was not pictured in first-team training at London Colney today.

Reported by Football.London’s Connor Humm, this comes in the wake of the Japanese international being taken off after 64-minutes in the Gunners’ 4-1 drubbing of Leeds United at Elland Road last Saturday.

Though he was not expected to feature against Sunderland in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal clash that saw Arsenal run out comprehensive 5-1 winners at the Emirates, boss Mikel Arteta remained coy in his update today on whether or not the former Bologna standout would be available for Boxing Day;

“It was more of a muscular injury. He has got a big load on him because he has played every single minute since he’s joined us and even this week, he has been struggling a little bit.

We decided to take him off, he was not 100 per cent confident to continue in the game, and hopefully he is not injured.”

Should Tomiyasu be unfit for service against Dean Smith’s struggling Canaries, it is likely that the Spanish headmaster will turn to Portuguese right-back Cédric Soares after his solid outing against the Black Cats, but it is not out of the realm of possibility that youngster Nuno Tavares could deputize.

Arsenal starting to roll under Arteta

After their resounding win over Sunderland in midweek that will see them clash with Liverpool in the two-legged semi-final of the Carabao Cup, Arsenal has the chance of heading into 2022 from a position of real strength and confidence.

At current, the Gunners are on a three-match unbeaten run in the league after suffering consecutive defeats against Manchester United and Everton but have done well to bounce back in good order in the aftermath of the disappointment.

This has come in spite of the issues surrounding the stripping of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as captain, but goals have continued to flow in his absence thanks to Arteta’s young guns, and Norwich could be set to bear the brunt of another inspired performance from Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli.

Bruno Lage’s Wolves follow the Carrow Road away day, and a five-match unbeaten streak in the league presents the ideal platform for Arsenal to find as much confidence as possible before a date with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the English capital.
