Word stemming from the Spanish media on Friday suggests that struggling La Liga giants Barcelona are readying a swoop for a new goalkeeper.

MAtS faltering

The situation between the posts at the Camp Nou has of course emerged as a major talking point over the first-half of the 2021/22 campaign.

This comes owing to a lengthy string of less-than-impressive performances on the part of Barca no.1 Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The German, once viewed as one of world football’s finest, has been subjected to widespread criticism of late, including just this past weekend, when a pair of preventable goals conceded so nearly cost Xavi and co. all three points in a meeting with Elche.

Calls, in turn, have begun to mount not only for ter Stegen to be moved on as soon as possible, but for the board in the Catalan capital to secure fresh blood between the sticks, ahead of a crucial 2nd half of the campaign.

Vallecano standout eyed

And, as alluded to above, if the latest reports doing the rounds in the Spanish media on Friday are anything to go by, then those of a Barcelona persuasion in favour of a goalkeeping shake-up at the club could well have their wishes granted imminently.

As per El Chiringuito TV, the Blaugrana have indeed begun seeking out shot-stopping reinforcements ahead of the opening of the January transfer window.

Not only that, but one such target has been identified, in the form of Stole Dimitrievski.

Rayo Vallecano no.1 Dimitrievski has enjoyed a stellar season to date, currently boasting one of the highest save percentages in the Spanish top-flight.

The hierarchy at the Camp Nou, in turn, are understood to have set their sights firmly on the Macedonian ahead of the turn of the year, be it as fresh competition, or a replacement for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

El Chiringuito even go as far as to suggest that Dimitrievski has already made his way to Barcelona, ahead of negotiations being opened between the two parties.
