Liverpool star Andrew Robertson has, on Friday, taken to social media to unveil the moment which saw him pick up a nasty black eye during the club’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur.

Robbo in the thick of things

Scottish international Robertson of course took centre stage in the latest round of Premier League fixtures.

In just one of four matches played out last weekend, Liverpool made the trip to north London, for a showdown with Antonio Conte’s fast-improving Tottenham.

When all was said and done, the clash did not disappoint, playing out into a pulsating 2-2 stalemate, owing to goals from all of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Diogo Jota and the aforementioned Robertson.

The telling contributions of Liverpool’s rampaging left-back, however, did not end simply with his 2nd-half strike.

In addition, Robertson picked up the assist for Jota’s equaliser, before ultimately being sent for an early bath, joining an exclusive Premier League club in the process:

Emerson’s lasting impression

And, as alluded to above, there proved yet one more lasting takeaway for Robertson from last weekend’s action in north London.

A series of photos doing the rounds on social media over the course of the day thus far showcased the fact that Liverpool’s gifted left-full was sporting a black eye in training at Kirkby on Friday:

Questions, in turn, quickly began to spread regarding how exactly the Scot picked up the problem.

And, late on Friday evening, Robertson himself has provided an explanation for as much.

Taking to the stories section of his official Instagram account, the 27-year-old unveiled a photo, showcasing Spurs wing-back Emerson Royal following through with a kick directly into Roberton’s face.

The image is accompanied by the caption: ‘Anyone asking about black eye! This might help’, confirming that Emerson was indeed responsible, albeit accidentally, for his fresh shiner:
