An explanation for the respective absences of all of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Cedric Soares from Arsenal’s matchday squad to face Norwich this afternoon has been provided.

Gunners firing on all cylinders

Mikel Arteta’s men are of course set to return to action shortly.

As part of an action-packed Boxing Day fixture list (albeit one which has been reduced to six ties owing to Covid-19), the Gunners have made the trip to Carrow Road, for a Premier League showdown with the aforementioned Norwich.

Arsenal head into proceedings no doubt brimming with confidence, having bounced back from a concerning defeat at Everton earlier this month with a quartet of successive victories across all competitions.

Arteta and co., in turn, are aware that another triumph this afternoon would see them, at the very least, maintain the club’s 4-point advantage over the rest of the top-4 chasing pack.

Tomi amongst absentees

As alluded to above, though, Arsenal’s hopes of returning to north London with all three points on Sunday were, in the buildup to kick-off, dealt something of a blow.

Upon the visitors’ matchday squad to face Norwich being unveiled, several regular members of Mikel Arteta’s ranks were nowhere to be seen.

The players in question? Cedric Soares, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and, most significantly, starring summer addition Takehiro Tomiyasu:

An explanation for the absences of all three, however, has since been provided.

As confirmed across Arsenal’s social media platforms, unfortunately, all of Cedric, Maitland-Niles and Tomiyasu have returned positive tests for Covid-19:
