Arteta on Aubameyang’s Norwich absence as stat reveals Arsenal’s brilliant form

An altogether head-turning statistic has come to the fore online this evening, highlighting just how impressive Arsenal’s form has been since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the club’s captain’s armband.

Saka at the double

The Gunners were of course back in Premier League action earlier this afternoon.

As part of a busy day of fixtures in the English top-flight, Mikel Arteta and co. made the trip to East Anglia for a meeting with relegation-battling Norwich City, eyeing a fifth straight win across all competitions.

And, when all was said and done at Carrow Road, this is precisely what Arsenal managed, in some style…

A dominant display ultimately culminated in the visitors emerging on the right side of a 5-0 scoreline, owing to strikes from all of Bukayo Saka (2), Kieran Tierney, Alexandre Lacazette and Emile Smith Rowe.

Arsenal, in turn, have climbed a full six points clear of the top-4 chasing pack (albeit with both Manchester United and Tottenham boasting multiple games in hand).

‘Wasn’t selected’

Despite his side’s stellar display and eventual result this afternoon, though, speaking during his post-match media duties, Mikel Arteta was nevertheless drawn on one Gunners star to have played no part in proceedings versus Norwich.

The player in question? Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Gabonese hitman Aubameyang has of course been banished to the stands in north London of late, after being stripped of the Arsenal captaincy owing to a late return from a recent trip abroad.

And, if Arteta’s latest comments on Sunday evening are anything to go by, then the same infraction appears to have been behind his latest omission at Carrow Road, too:

Elsewhere on the Aubameyang front, meanwhile, an altogether head-turning statistic has too surfaced online, highlighting just how impressive Arsenal have looked, particularly in front of goal, since the ex-Borussia Dortmund man was stripped of the captain’s armband.

As per journalist Sam Dean, the Gunners have now managed to find the net on a whopping 19 occasions in Auba’s absence, across their last five outings in all competitions:
