Fans single out pair of Manchester United underperformers in dismal first half against Newcastle United

Manchester United head in behind

Manchester United looked to continue their unbeaten run under new boss Ralf Rangnick as they played their first game in two weeks against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

While the Red Devils were heavy favourites for the tie, they refused to make life easy for themselves in a dismal first half. Indeed, Allan Saint-Maximin capitalised on some poor defending from Raphael Varane to curl the opening goal in past David De Gea, and send the home fans into delirium.

And in truth, it was a well deserved lead, with the Red Devils flattering to deceive in any way despite the raft of stars fielded by Rangnick. Unable to string anything significant together, half-time came as a much needed break for the Manchester outfit.

And safe to say, the United fans were not happy.

Two players held to account after first half

While the whole team were rounded on by the Manchester United faithful, two players received particular criticism for their first-half displays, perhaps unfairly.

Both Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford endured forty-five minutes to forget in the north-east, and those on social media were quick to let them know, as can be seen below.
