German giants chasing Bellingham the younger

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund look set to sanction a bit of brotherly love in the Ruhr valley as Die Schwarzgelben has set their sights on Birmingham City’s Jobe Bellingham, the younger brother of current star midfielder Jude Bellingham.

According to the highly-reliable Ruhr Nachrichten, the 16-year-old England U18 international right-winger is on the priority list at the Westfalenstadion this summer, with Dortmund seriously considering adding the younger Bellingham into their vaunted U19 set up in the summer.

It could be the perfect developmental move for Jobe given Dortmund’s long-established track record of developing young players in the youth ranks, with the likes of Youssoufa Moukoko, Ansgar Knauff, Giovanni Reyna, Tobias Raschl, Felix Passlack, and Lucas Unbehaun all rising through the ranks and now among the first-team set up under boss Marco Rose.

Certainly, the rapid and impressive development of his older brother Jude stands as a testament to what Dortmund can do for a budding young English talent, with current Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho serving as another example.

A reunion that may not last

This is not the first time that Dortmund has been linked with interest in Jude’s younger brother, with links already being established back in October when the club’s youth coordinator and former star academy graduate Lars Ricken commented on Bellingham, which hinted at a long-term approach regarding the youngster.

But despite Dortmund angling an approach vector for Jobe after the current 2021-22 campaign, Jude’s future at the club could be at an end if Liverpool has any say in the matter.

Previously linked with heavy interest in the full England international, former Liverpool academy product Craig Hignett spoke on BBC Radio Merseyside while claiming that Bellingham was set for an eventual move to Anfield, though he did not elude to whether that meant a Hinrunde move or if he would be changing addresses in the summer.

Regardless of what may come down the line, Borussia Dortmund continues to push in their attempts to develop youngsters with a view of supplying the pipeline in the Ruhr valley.
