Word stemming from the Spanish media on Thursday points towards an imminent departure from Chelsea for star defender Andreas Christensen.

Blues’ concerns

The situation at the heart of the club’s backline has of course emerged as a major concern at Chelsea of late.

This comes with no fewer than four of the club’s defenders, as things stand, poised to depart Stamford Bridge upon the expiration of their respective contracts next summer.

The players in question? Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and the aforementioned Andreas Christensen.

Losing one, or potentially several of this quartet would of course mark a hammer blow for Thomas Tuchel and co., who, just months ago, confirmed their tag as the continent’s finest courtesy of a triumph over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Champions League final.

Camp Nou bound?

And, as alluded to above, on Thursday, an altogether concerning update has emerged surrounding one of the four defenders in question – Andreas Christensen.

Whilst Thiago Silva is understood to be inching closer to an agreement over the extension of his current terms in west London, Danish international Christensen, on the other hand, appears headed firmly for the exit door.

As per a report from Diario Sport, the 25-year-old has absolutely ‘no intention’ of signing a new contract with Chelsea.

Step forth, FC Barcelona…

The same report from Sport suggests that La Liga heavyweights Barca are ready to take full advantage of Christensen’s delicate situation in the English capital, by means of a January agreement ahead of a free transfer to the club at the end of the season.

In fact, those in a position of power at the Camp Nou are understood to have been in negotiations with the Dane and his entourage for ‘weeks’ now, with both parties evidently keen to strike a deal.
