Why Arsenal are unlikely to sign Dejan Kulusevski in the January transfer window

Arsenal linked with Kulusevski

Arsenal have been one of several clubs linked with a move for Juventus outcast Dejan Kulusevski in recent weeks, with the Swede able to play either out wide or through the middle.

North London rivals Tottenham have also been heavily linked, as have German giants Bayern Munich, with Juventus thought to be demanding between 35 and 40 million pounds for their player.

But, Arsenal are reportedly unlikely to pursue a deal.

Why they are unlikely to sign him in January

Despite the rumours, James McNicholas of The Athletic has revealed the reason that Arsenal are unlikely to want to bring Dejan Kulsevski to the Emirates stadium in the January transfer window.

Speaking in a Q and A session, he revealed:

Kulusevski is someone Arsenal admire, but as a left-footed player who tends to operate from the right-hand side, there isn’t an obvious spot for him in the squad right now.

However, he did add that this could change should Nicolas Pepe be moved on. But, with the Ivorian away at the Africa Cup of Nations for much of January, it seems unlikely that there will be sufficient time to find him a move away that suits Arsenal’s needs financially as well as Pepe’s desire for first-team football.

Therefore, attracting Kulusevski to the club could be something that the Gunners work on in the summer, should they find a buyer for Pepe. For January, however, it looks unlikely.
