Mikel Arteta’s role revealed as Arsenal fight to narrow defeat vs Man City

Revealed: The extent of Mikel Arteta’s involvement as Arsenal fall in narrow loss to Man City

Arteta’s involvement in loss to City revealed

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was hardly out of the loop as the Gunners, unfortunately, succumbed to a late Manchester City win at the Emirates earlier today.

As revealed by CBS Sports’ James Benge, Arteta had access to knowledge of proceedings from start to finish through a specific feed with an angle situated high up in the Emirates. This allowed the Arsenal boss to communicate with chief deputy Albert Stuivenberg and relay information to the Dutch coach when possible.

“During the game there was no direct line with Mikel [and me]. We are always in contact with each other.

I do believe I am famous for my AirPods, normally I am in that situation where we’re always in contact with somebody upstairs or in this case from further away, for the Norwich game also people who are not involved at the stadium.

There was not a direct line but an indirect line with Mikel. In between, of course at half time, before and after the game, Mikel has been in touch. He needs to be involved in that case. We don’t do anything differently, only Mikel is not here, that’s the difference.”

Arsenal progress despite 2-1 defeat

The result against Manchester City should not deter Arsenal fans from the overall progress on display at the Emirates this season under boss Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal was thrashed 5-0 by the Premier League champions and sealed an 0-0-3 start to the 2021-22 campaign that had many feeling that Arteta was not fit to take the club forward, but fast-forward to the present and Arsenal entered 2022 in fourth and for large parts of the match today, dominated City.

If the overall performance was any indication, Arsenal is certainly in good hands with the former Gunners midfielder at the helm, and once again the kids performed brilliantly with Bukayo Saka bagging his 6th goal of the season while Gabriel Martinelli was a threat throughout.

Losses will always be a better teacher than wins, and in that light, today’s loss shows just how strong Arsenal are becoming.
