Jurgen Klopp wants Liverpool to sign Barcelona star

Reports coming out of Spain have linked Premier League powerhouse, Liverpool, with Barcelona star Ronald Araujo.

Who is Araujo?

Ronald Araujo was signed by Barcelona in August of 2018, leaving Uruguayan outfit Boston River to link up with the club’s B team.

Araujo would go on to feature 44 times for Barca B, scoring six and assisting three in the process.

Since then, he has been promoted to the club’s senior set-up, and has now become a key cog in La Blaugrana’s backline.

All told, the centre-back has notched 58 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish side, 19 of which have come in the current campaign.

And with Gerard Pique past his best, and players like Samuel Umtiti suffering with persistent injury issues, Araujo has been one of the few bright sparks at the back for Barca of late.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants Araujo

Now, though, as mentioned above, Spanish outlet El Nacional have linked Liverpool with a swoop for Araujo.

They report that a number of top clubs, including PSG and Chelsea, are interested in the stopper. But Liverpool are the ‘strongest bet’, with it suggested that Jurgen Klopp has personally requested for his side to sign the 22-year-old.

Liverpool have Araújo in the spotlight.

Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are just a few of those interested, but Liverpool are the strongest bet on Araújo, which is a request from Jürgen Klopp.

In terms of a potential fee for Araujo, it is believed that he would be priced at €40m.

Given his considerable potential, this does not seem unreasonable, but should Liverpool really be looking to pay it?

The Merseysiders already boast four senior central defenders, with Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate also still young and brimming with potential of their own.
