A series of statistics have come to the fore online this evening, aptly summing up just how dominant Chelsea’s midfield pairing of Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante proved over the course of the 90 minutes against Liverpool.

Spoils shared

The headline fixture of the Premier League weekend was of course brought to a close a short time ago.

After Manchester City extended their advantage atop the English top-flight to a hefty eleven points by way of a 2-1 downing of Arsenal on Saturday, 2nd and 3rd-placed Chelsea and Liverpool went head-to-head at Stamford Bridge.

And to say that the clash, when all was said and done, lived up to the hype would be putting it lightly.

A pulsating 90 minutes, across which the scoreline could and should have been added to on several further occasions, ultimately played out into a 2-2 stalemate.

Sadio Mane opened the evening’s scoring, before Mohamed Salah appeared to have sent Liverpool on their way to all three points inside the opening half an hour:

Chelsea, though, soon came roaring back, pulling one back in spectacular fashion courtesy of Mateo Kovacic, before Christian Pulisic rounded out the day’s scoring on the stroke of the interval:

Blues dominate

Key to the eventual comeback point secured by Sunday’s hosts, meanwhile, were the efforts of Thomas Tuchel’s troops in the middle of the park.

As alluded to above, the pairing of Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante utterly dominated their Liverpool counterparts at Stamford Bridge, making the trio of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho look, frankly, rather average.

And a series of statistics to have come to the fore post-match have since aptly highlighted just how truly spectacular Chelsea’s duo in the middle of the park were this evening.

First, it was revealed that not a single Liverpool player managed to dispossess either Kante or Kovacic over the course of the 90 minutes:

Not only that, but, incredibly, neither of the Blues’ midfield two were dribbled past on a single occasion, either, going a perfect seven for seven in their attempted tackles on the day:
