Lukaku’s bizarre interview

Romelu Lukaku has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons over the last few days.

The Belgian has had an indifferent start to life at Chelsea, sidelined for some time before seemingly working his way back into Thomas Tuchel’s plans after featuring in and scoring in the Blues’ last two outings.

So, it no doubt came as something of a surprise when a Lukaku interview emerged on Thursday, in which he stated that he was not happy with his situation at Chelsea:

Thomas Tuchel was asked about the interview during his pre-Liverpool press conference on Friday, and seemed less than pleased.

Tuchel on Lukaku

And, as 101 covered early on Sunday, Lukaku is now set to miss out on Chelsea’s meeting with Liverpool at 4:30 pm UK time.

That tie is taking place on Sky and, ahead of facing Liverpool, Thomas Tuchel would sit down with Sky to discuss the Lukaku interview:

“We will not try to tell you, I will not try to tell you that that we are happy about it. Does a dressing room always need to be a sensitive dressing room, like I said, a sensible construction always need to be like full of harmony? No it’s even sometimes good if it’s not always in full harmony.

“But to speak out these things as a as a big player, as a big signing, and key player for us who behaves on a daily basis, like he is absolutely happy, that is a concern. Of course and that is very, very surprising first of all and we have to speak to him, he needs to speak to us that we can understand it what is at the moment very hard to understand, because, like how he behaves, how he plays, how he scores, like in the now right after injury, how he behaves in the daily basis, how we have the talks, very surprising.

Tuchel was then asked about the specific part of the Lukaku interview which saw the Belgian claim Tuchel had decided to play a different formation.

The Chelsea boss, though, was somewhat bemused by that specific comment:

I don’t know actually. I don’t know, we decided actually not to play a different formation, so that’s why it’s a kind of surprise on many levels.
