Gasquet Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Richard Gasquet was seeking match play in Melbourne this week. He’ll get isolation instead.

The 35-year-old Frenchman announced he tested positive for Coronavirus. Gasquet withdrew from this week’s Melbourne 250 event and is isolating in Melbourne.

Gasquet was scheduled to face sixth-seeded Ilya Ivashka in his Melbourne opener.

Finnish baseliner Emil Ruusuvuori replaces Gasquet in the Melbourne Summer Set draw and will take on Ivashka.

Though Gasquet was forced out of the Melbourne tune-up tournament, he expects to recover in time to play the Australian Open starting on January 17th.

Former world No. 7 Gasquet had hoped to find his form ahead of the Australian Open.

Gasquet ended 2021 losing his last four Tour-level matches.

World No. 87 Gasquet joins Denis Shapovalov, Andrey Rublev, Rafael Nadal, Belinda Bencic, Ons Jabeur, Emma Raducanu and Nadal’s coaches, Carlos Moya and Marc Lopez, among the stars who have tested positive for the virus in recent weeks.
