Everton announce Patterson signing

Everton have added their second full-back of the transfer window, stumping up an impressive 16 million pounds to bring Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson south of the border to Goodison Park.

The Scotsman has signed five and a half year deal and will wear the no.3 shirt for the Toffees, taking over the mantle last worn by club-legend Leighton Baines.

Speaking after his signing, Patterson revealed:

“It was an easy choice to sign. This is a massive club with huge history and the fanbase is tremendous. Obviously we aren’t in the place where we want to be right now but we can definitely get there with the talent in the changing room and staff here, and I have full belief we can do that.

“It is really exciting to come to a club that has huge talent in the team. I am going to work my socks off and hopefully I can do well with them in training and in games.

He joins Vitaliy Mykolenko as Everton’s second signing of the winter window, and raises fresh questions over the future of Lucas Digne.

Digne subject to two-horse race?

Lucas Digne has been out of the Everton side since falling out with Everton boss Rafa Benitez ahead of their 1-0 win over Arsenal, and seems certain to depart this January.

And while Chelsea are thought to be keen on the defender as a replacement for the injured Ben Chilwell, another side have also entered the fray, in the form of Newcastle.

And while the Blues would only want a loan move with an option to buy, the newly-rich Tyneside outfit may be able to commit to a full transfer, netting Everton some precious funds.
