Inter Milan set to complete Onana move

After months of speculation, it appears as though the future of Ajax and Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana has finally been settled.

The shot-stopper, who was banned for 9 months for mistakenly taking his wife’s medication, returned to playing football in November, and has now joined up with his national team for the Africa Cup of Nations.

And, while he is set to remain at Ajax until the end of the season, it will be the final six months of his contract, meaning that he will depart as a free agent come the summer.

And now, that destination has been revealed, in the form of Italian champions Inter Milan.

He will initially join as competition for the 37-year-old stalwart Samir Handanovic, before assuming the no.1 spot in the coming seasons upon the Slovene’s inevitable retirement.

Once looked at as a potential Arsenal target, Onana is a smart pickup for the Italian champions, as they look to begin a Serie A dynasty in the same way that Juventus have in decades previous.

Milan set for PIF takeover?

And there is more good news on a financial front for Inter and their fanbase, as the Saudi Public Investment Fund are set to complete a takeover for the club worth around 1 billion euros, according to recent reports.

As part of a program that some consider “sportwashing”, the PIF have acquired Newcastle United already this season, and look to add the San Siro outfit to their list of clients too.

And, while the human rights record of the fund is questionable, it may finally put Inter on the same financial level as their Premier League and La Liga rivals.
