Hayden speaks highly of Eddie Howe

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden recently sat down to chat about life at Newcastle under Steve Bruce as well as current boss Eddie Howe during his recovery.

The former England U21 international recently underwent knee surgery and has no clear timetable to a return, but that did not strip him of his ability to talk shop with The Beautiful Game Podcast.

Hayden spoke fondly of new boss Eddie Howe, who has come in and immediately established a noteworthy direction according to the Chelmsford-native;

“Eddie has come in and is a top, top gaffer. Knows his staff, man-management is very good…but the intensity and his identity of play is very, very strong.”

The English midfielder also spoke diplomatically if not friendly about former manager Steve Bruce despite the spats the pair had during Bruce’s tenure at Newcastle;

“I mean, to be fair, we had a few ding-dongs during our time between him and myself. As player-manager you get into a few things, but to be fair to him he was always…like…he’s a typical man’s man you know, like, you can have an argument or whatever it is but you shake hands at the end of it and that’s it, it’s done.”

Midfielder talks transfers amid expected January business

With Newcastle tipped to bring in a number of fresh recruits during the January window, including England international right-back Kieran Trippier while being linked with the likes of Joe Rodon and Sardar Azmoun, Isaac Hayden also discussed the nature of transfers.

Hayden took a jab at anyone who thinks transfers are as easy as clicking a few buttons on Football Manager amid growing speculation on who may be coming into the club;

“The thing is, is they go ‘oh, so and so, or this player is going to leave in January, and you know he’ll get released and, well, we can buy this player.’ And I’m thinking, listen, guys, this is not Football Manager. Like, it’s not like you can go online and you can, you know, look at the squad list and you look through and you go ‘oh he’s not playing, he’s not playing, he’ll get transfered there, he’ll leave to go there, and then we’re buying this player.’ It doesn’t work like that.”

All joking aside, should Newcastle complete their business in the wake of the PIF-led takeover, many Magpies will be happy to have better financial backing with which to hopefully avoid relegation.
