Benitez quizzed on Sean Longstaff rumours

Everton boss Rafael Benitez held his latest press conference on Friday afternoon.

During said presser, the Spaniard was quizzed heavily on potential transfers during the January window.

When asked directly about the possibility of further signings adding to his squad this month, Benitez stated:

“We are open to good players, who are available, if they can improve the squad.”

The Toffees manager was then asked specifically about interest in Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff. Benitez, though, was keen to keep his cards close to his chest:

“I’m quite focused on the games, other people are focused on the names. This window is so complicated, you never know.”

Everton eyeing Manchester United midfielder

Now, amid their persistent links to Longstaff, though, Everton have been linked with another central midfielder.

The player in question? Manchester United youngster, James Garner.

Garner, a 20-year-old product of United’s youth system, is currently on loan at Championship outfit Nottingham Forest.

Garner spent the second half of last season at the City Ground, and has impressed once more to this point in the current campaign.

In turn, it is being reported that Everton are eyeing a move for the Manchester United man.

Given the fact that he is currently on loan, one would assume that any swoop for Garner on Everton’s part would have to come in the form of a permanent one.
