Shrewsbury boss reveals classy gesture from Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool 4-Shrewsbury 1

League One outfit Shrewsbury Town faced off with Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, looking to follow in the footsteps of Cambridge by knocking a Premier League outfit out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round.

Shrewsbury started the tie well and even took the lead shortly before the half-hour mark:

In the end, though, the might of Liverpool proved too much. Strikes from all of Fabinho (2), Roberto Firmino and 17-year-old Kaide Gordan ensured Jurgen Klopp’s men booked their spot in the 4th round.

Liverpool will now face Cardiff next month:

Virgil van Dijk’s classy gesture

One of the senior Liverpool players in from the off on Sunday was Vigil van Dijk.

Now, after the game, Shrewsbury boss Steve Cotterill has revealed a classy gesture from the Dutchman.

As per Cotterill, following the game, Van Dijk came into the away dressing room to congratulate everyone. He would also bring his shirt, presumably to give to one of the players:

“Virgil came into our dressing room and congratulated everyone and brought his shirt in. Not only is he a top player he is a gentleman and it was a very good experience for our players today”
