Erik ten Hag remains focused at Ajax despite links to Manchester United

Erik ten Hag ‘focused on the season’ amid growing links with Manchester United job

AFC Ajax tactician Erik ten Hag has risen up the collective consciousness of supporters across Europe after his tenure at Johan Cruijff Arena with de Godenzonen has been nothing short of superb, which has led to his name being linked with a cadre of top-level jobs across the continent in recent seasons.

Ten Hag previously was tabled as a possible option for Bayern Munich before Julian Nagelsmann was trusted at Säbener Strasse, while Arsenal fans have long desired his presence at the Emirates Stadium before many have settled on Mikel Arteta being the right man for the job in north London.

Now, global giants Manchester United could look to turn to the Dutchman as the club begin their search for the long-term managerial option at Old Trafford after it has been deemed that Ralf Rangnick will not be the man to push the Red Devils forward, which seemingly has been enough to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at the club past the current season.

But despite reportedly being on the managerial shortlist at United along with Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino, and Julen Lopetegui, and now being tabled as the front-runner to take over in the summer, Ten Hag remains focused on the task at hand with Ajax as the Dutch outfit remains in a horse race with bitter rivals PSV Eindhoven for the Eredivisie title.

The right time to step up for Ten Hag with route to Manchester United open

Despite all his success, Erik Ten Hag has only challenged himself on the touchline sparingly when Ajax operates in their continental campaigns. On that evidence, Ten Hag is ready for a bigger, better, and even greater challenge than conquering the Eredivisie regularly.

Dutch icon Jaap Stam recently said as such when speaking in a recent interview when he said “For him, United would be another thing compared to what he is experiencing in Holland. He has to take this step forward in his career.”

Certainly, the way he has achieved continuity in Amsterdam despite losing key talents in the last few years has been brilliant, while his work – as part of Ajax’s club remit – with bringing youth through during rapid development has proven critical to the club’s success.

As United look to build for the future while also being the proud owners of quite a few young talents that could kick on to the next level under Ten Hag, on the surface, the Dutchman could finally have found the perfect destination at the right time to step up to the big stage.
