The earth-shattering season of Iga Swiatek has come to a close. Swiatek dropped her semifinal at the WTA Finals on Sunday with Aryna Sabalenka, closing her campaign with nine titles and two major titles to her name.
As the Pole heads back home for some well-deserved rest, let us take a moment to run down some of the jaw-dropping statistics that the 21-year-old World No.1 produced.
1 – Swiatek became the WTA’s 28th No.1-ranked player on April 4 and ran the table from there. She produced a 40-5 record as the No.1 and has now held the top ranking for 31 weeks.
2 – Number of Grand Slam titles won, Swiatek is the first player to win more than one in a single season since 2016.
3 – Number of Grand Slam titles won in 2022 by Swiatek. She is tied for third with Angelique Kerber among active players. Only Venus Williams (7) and Naomi Osaka (4) have more.
11,085 – Swiatek will finish the season with 11,085 ranking points, which is the most since Serena Williams recorded 13,615 in 2013.
67-9 – Swiatek’s final record in 2022. Swiatek has recorded the most tour-level victories since 2013 when Serena Williams claimed 78 wins.
37 – Swiatek posted a 37-match win streak that left her unbeaten for 135 days, which tied her with Martina Hingis for the longest winning streak since 1997. Swiatek’s streak is the joint-longest win streak on tour since 1990.
8-1 – in finals to improve to 11-2 lifetime at tour-level in title matches.
10 – Number of victories that Swiatek earned from a set down in 2022.
15 – Number of Top-10 wins that Swiatek reeled off in succession, from January to November. match win streak against Top-10 opposition. Per WTA Media, only Martina Navratilova (20) and Steffi Graf (17) produced bigger streaks against the Top-10 in the last 40 years.
15 – Swiatek is already 15th on the WTA’s all-time list for weeks at No.1.
16 – Wins and four losses in three-set matches.
18-1 – Swiatek’s record on clay (with three titles – stuttgart, Rome, Roland-Garros).
47-7 – Swiatek’s 47 hard-court wins (7 losses) are the fifth-highest amount recorded this century and the most since 2013.
22 – Number of bagel sets that Swiatek handed out, which is most since Serena Williams in 2013 (25).
51 – Number of straight-set wins in 2022, most since Serena (66) in 2013.
2006 – By winning her second major title in Paris, Swiatek became the youngest player to achieve multiple slam titles since Maria Sharapova in 2006.
